you may know the New York State Education Department's Bureau of
Proprietary School Supervision sent a letter to yoga studios
with teacher-training programs, warning them to cease or face up to a
$50,000.00 fine — or to apply for a license from the State — at
considerable cost in terms of time and effort.
letter led to a swift and dramatic response from the yoga community of
New York State. On June 2, over eighty yoga studio business owners from
around New York attended our first, very spirited, meeting and voted
into existence the Yoga Association of New York known as Yoga for New York.
